Dissection: Exploring the Crawfish
5th - 8th grades Grass Crawfish Dissection  Crawfish belong to the phylum Arthropoda and are in the class Crustaceae. Since the crawfish have very specialized appendages, they have become the perfect dissection tool to convey to students the relationship between structure, function and the environment. In this activity a 4-H science teacher will guide your classroom groups through a ‘hands-on’ step by step tour of the Crawfish. Standards addressed: Students will…… Science 5.2.1-….students will develop the abilities needed to do scientific inquiry…..choose appropriate tools …plan and conduct a simple investigation Science 5.4.1-….students will develop and understanding of the structure and function in living systems Science 8.4.1.-….Investigate and describe the levels of organization s: cells, tissue, organs, organ system, whole organism and ecosystems Science 8.2.1.-….students will develop the abilities needed to do scientific inquiry…..using appropriate tools and techniques to gather, analyze and interpret data
Recommended teaching time for this dissection activity is: 60 - 90 minutes Fee for Crawfish Dissection: $50 per classroom of 30 students *Only available through speaker visit.
