Nutrition Education Program School Enrichment Kits (Elementary)
1st through 6th graders

Due to special grant funding, this program is only available to elementary schools where 50% or more of the students participate in the free and reduced price school lunch program.
 
What’s in the kit?
  • Five lesson plans approximately 1 to 2 hours in length
  • Additional activities to complement each lesson
  • Supplies and handout copies for every student!
How does it work?
  • NEP staff delivers the kit directly to the classroom and teaches the first lesson
  • Kit remains with the teacher for up to 3 weeks
  • Teacher decides how to work the lessons into their schedule
  • NEP staff returns to the classroom to pick up the kit and leads students in preparing a healthy snack

Join the Dairy Council’s “Chef Combo” as he
helps 1st- 2nd graders discover:
  • Why their bodies need food
  • How their bodies use this food
  • How to plan a balanced meal
  • How to choose healthy snacks
Rate That Plate
3rd - 4th graders will enjoy learning about:
  • Nutrients
  • Using MyPyramid for Kids to make healthy food choices
  • How eating healthy foods makes them feel good
  • Eating a healthy breakfast
Food Science Investigator (FSI)
5th - 6th graders’ curiosity will quickly peak as they investigate: •
  • What and why nutrients are important
  • How to use MyPyramid for Kids to select a balanced diet
  • Different food labels and what they mean
  • Food Safety
