Entomology
2nd - 6th Grades

When kids ask adults, “ HEY!!!! what is that THING crawling on the ground ?!!!” The kids usually hear “Oh that’s just a bug.”

“Just a Bug” HA!!!!! Not in my class - Not on my shift!!!! You and your students will be engaged in an interactive presentation that finally answers the questions of: “ What is a true insect?”- “Can boy insects sting?”- “What is the difference between moths and butterflies?”

PLUS, I will transform one of your students into a giant insect as we learn about all those body parts.

Meets Nebraska Star Science Standards:
  • 1.4.1 By the end of 1st grade, students will develop an understanding of the characteristics of living things
  • 1.4.2 By the end of 1st grade, students will develop an understanding of the life cycles of organisms
  • 4.4.1 By the end of 4th grade, students will develop an understanding of the characteristics of living things
  • 4.4.2 By the end of 4th grade, students will develop an understanding of the life cycles of organisms
A representative of the 4-H Office will make two visits to your classroom in support of this project:
  • To introduce students to insects, using impressive models and insect collections.
  • To use knowledge gained in first class to build their own insect. In Invent-A-Bug students will make their own new species of insect out of play dough. Best of all it is theirs to keep.
