Entomology
2nd - 6th Grades  When kids ask adults, “ HEY!!!! what is that THING crawling on the ground ?!!!” The kids usually hear “Oh that’s just a bug.” “Just a Bug” HA!!!!! Not in my class - Not on my shift!!!! You and your students will be engaged in an interactive presentation that finally answers the questions of: “ What is a true insect?”- “Can boy insects sting?”- “What is the difference between moths and butterflies?” PLUS, I will transform one of your students into a giant insect as we learn about all those body parts. Meets Nebraska Star Science Standards: 1.4.1 By the end of 1st grade, students will develop an understanding of the characteristics of living things 1.4.2 By the end of 1st grade, students will develop an understanding of the life cycles of organisms 4.4.1 By the end of 4th grade, students will develop an understanding of the characteristics of living things 4.4.2 By the end of 4th grade, students will develop an understanding of the life cycles of organisms
A representative of the 4-H Office will make two visits to your classroom in support of this project: To introduce students to insects, using impressive models and insect collections. To use knowledge gained in first class to build their own insect. In Invent-A-Bug students will make their own new species of insect out of play dough. Best of all it is theirs to keep.
Fee for Entomology: $40 per classroom (up to 30 students) *Only available through speaker visit.
