Embryology
Kindergarten - 6th Grades (NO PRESCHOOLS)  This project teaches youth how life develops by observing the process of hatching baby chicks over a four-week period. Resource materials include: One dozen eggs and incubator. Notebook with instructions for care of the eggs. A video and poster from the University of Nebraska to further explain the stages of embryo growth. The "Incredible Egg" classroom curriculum guide.
Other standards addressed: Students will... Science 1.4.1 - ...develop an understanding of the characteristics of living things. Science 1.4.2, 4.4.2 - ...develop an understanding of the life cycles of living things. Science 8.4.2 - ...develop and understanding of reproduction and heredity.
A representative of the 4-H office will make two visits into your classroom. The first visit will introduce the project, set the eggs and begin the hatching process. The second visit will include candling the eggs and discussion of the growth which is occurring. Reserve a spot in one of these sessions: October 18 - November 12, 2010 February 28 - March 25, 2011 April 18 - May 13, 2011
 On the last day of your session a 4-H representative will pick up the clean incubator and baby chicks. **4-H cannot guarantee hatches- no refunds
Fee for Embryology: $45 per classroom with two speaker visits, incubator, eggs, and notebook (up to 30 students).
A second option is available for $25 per class. This program includes all the same resource materials but without the classroom presentations.
The 4-H is no longer able to offer the "eggs only" option.

Teachers will receive an invoice from the 4-H staff via e-mail after the project data has been set.
